It's been a long time since I have posted anything to the blog. I have been either too busy to blog or just not in the mood. The holidays have a tendencay to do that sort of thing. So much has happened since my last post that I can't even begin to describe all that has transpired since October 19th, however I will try to summarize.
The early portion of November was just as I thought it would be. The annual update to the company website was on the agenda, only this time there was a twist: visual enhancements as well as structural and content enhancements. I am in favor of both, however the time necessary to accomplish such a feat is considerable. I was given a month to complete the project and that simply won't do. That coupled with the fact that the update was to be written in ASP.NET 2.0 only added to the factor of impossibility. As a result, much of the structural changes have been slated for the second quarter of 2007. This gives us time to sit back and really define the mission statement of the company's web presence. The UI for the 2007 site was written in 2.0, but the business logic and data logic are still in 1.1. This is a large part of the change for Q2-2007.
The full rollout of our SharePoint Portal Server was completed as well. We've been writing Web Parts and other standalone apps to extend the portal for the last few months and we have finally reached a level of operation that allowed us to replace our old intranet. The project has actually been a lot of fun. SPS is a trememdous product and opens up a new world of opportunity for us, as a company, to centralize our information efforts.
On the personal side, I've just been hanging out with my friends. I'm still single and I'm still enjoying it for the most part. There are times when I'm watching something on TV that I wish I could be watching with someone, or I'm at an event that I wish I could be at with someone, but that truly is life. It's not something to worry about, but it's also difficult to completely dismiss from thought. I have a really great group of friends and although it's a different kind of fulfillment, it definitely enriches life. All-in-all I have no complaints, just thoughts :)
I have all of my family in town right now and it is fantastic. My brother and I have hung out more in the last week than we have (probably) in the previous 2 years. I think that my family and our odd traditions is what I look forward to most at Christmas. This year has been and will continue to be no different.
I want to wish everyone the best this Christmas. Stay warm and enjoy the most wonderful time of the year.
God Bless!
